Always have something you are genuinely looking forward to

This is the one I was working on when I surprised my friends and colleagues by choosing severance over the lateral transfer that was on offer, because deciding when to commit to a full time studio practice is a lot like deciding when to have children. There is never going to be a good time, so if you want it, you just have to do it and deal with what comes.

The line paces up and down, pushing right up against the edges, like a big cat restless at the zoo. I wasn’t conscious of it at the time, but in retrospect, that particular dynamic makes perfect sense.
