Interlace the fingers of your left and right hands

Generally, for each one of these, I write something about some aspect of the specific painting, or painting in general, or just whatever I’m thinking about. But don’t mistake this for an explanation of what the painting means. It doesn’t mean anything. It just is, in a way that either makes a case for it's continued existence in the world, or doesn’t.

I know a painting is making a compelling case for its continued existence when its coming to mind makes me want to go look at it, even if that means interrupting what I’m doing or getting up in the night to do so. What I find compelling about this one is the dappled shimmer of the yellow coming through from the back, the way the segments snap into a floating mosaic pattern if you look at it long enough to burn in a lingering afterimage. Many of them do that.
